I wish I could give people cause to be as ecstatic as I was the day the wild bird rode on the top of my head...

I have always liked making stuff. I like marginal technologies, color relationships, simple, satisfying forms. I want to make hats which, although they may draw attention to themselves, do not overshadow the persons who wear them. I want each hat to suit its particular person aesthetically and psychologically. I want the hats I make to bring some kind of pleasure into the life of the person who wears it.

Working with the materials is always magical. That wool fiber, warm water, and soap will, together, become such a strong, warm, beautiful fabric is still, to me, a fine surprise.

I like surprises.
